EVERY year on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements in what has come to be known as International Women’s Day.

Closer to home, the celebrations are scheduled to start today with the second annual ‘Women of Substance’ (WOS) exhibition followed by a gala dinner tomorrow.The celebrations will take place at the Safari Hotel in Windhoek.Prominent women like Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Miss Namibia 2008, Marlise Roberts, community activist Rosa Namises, and the patron of the WOS forum and Ambassador to Sweden, Teresia Samaria, will attend.The opening of the exhibition on Saturday morning will be done by First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba, who will later attend the gala dinner deliver the keynote address.The President of the WOS Forum, Isabella !Hurihe //Hauses, says the exhibition was added this year to expand the celebrations.’We are also expecting a turnout of more women from all the regions to take part in the celebrations this year,’ she said.At a press conference on Wednesday, Standard Bank Namibia handed over a sponsorship cheque of N$80 000 to the event organisers, Godisha Investments. The WOS is an educative networking forum, set to underscore the visibility and effectiveness of women in the workplace.
