A woman at Oshakati was arrested on Wednesday after she was allegedly found smuggling illegal drugs and illicit tobacco products into the police holding cells.
According to police deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the suspect had allegedly hidden the drugs in food while visiting inmates in custody.
The suspect has been charged with possession of prohibited dependence producing drugs.
The arrest took place at around 13h30 at the Oshakati Police Station.
She says the woman was found with 33 grammes of cannabis with an estimated value of N$1 650 and 40 units of Yes Cigarrettes valued at N$80.
“Those were all siezed. The suspect, a 21-year-old Namibian female, is a resident of Uupindi location,” she adds.
Shikwambi says the suspect will appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
