Witness says police shot man at Onhuno roadblock in Ohangwena

The police allegedly shot and killed a man passing through the Onhuno roadblock in the Ohangwena region on Monday.

The man, reportedly a truck driver, was driving from Angola to Opoto in the Oshana region, where he was to offload a truckload of Omahangu (pearl millet).

It is reported that a police officer manning the roadblock at the time refused to let the man pass, since he could not present proof of processing his truck through the weighbridge.

The man’s name cannot be revealed yet as his next of kin have not been informed of his death.

“He [the police officer] shot the truck’s tyre and proceeded to shoot the driver,” a witness says.

The police have confirmed the incident and promised to share a final report on the incident later today.
