Namibian international Stoffel Witbeen (24) has completed a major career move after signing for reigning Zimbabwe Premier League champions Scottland FC on a two-year contract from Okahandja United FC.
The versatile attacker, who is comfortable playing as a winger or attacking midfielder, earned the move after an impressive season in which he helped Okahandja United secure a bronze medal in the 2026 NFA Cup.
He finished the campaign with 12 goals contributions across all competitions, seven goals and six assists.
Witbeen’s football journey began at Dordabis Primary School, where he first discovered his passion for the game. In 2014, he won his first individual accolade after being named the school’s outstanding player of the year.
In 2017, he moved to Witvlei in the Omaheke region and joined Nossob FC before later playing for Fire Birds.
While attending school at Gobabis in 2020, he represented the Omaheke region at the under-20 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup. A year later, he signed for Desert Rollers in the Omaheke Second Division and featured in the NFA Cup.
His breakthrough came in 2022 when he joined Okahandja United, where two impressive seasons earned him his first senior national team call-up with the Brave Warriors.
Witbeen then had his first experience abroad with Botswana side Matebele FC. Although he initially struggled to adapt to the style of play, he eventually settled in before financial difficulties at the club forced him to return to Namibia in 2024.
Back at Okahandja United, Witbeen rediscovered his best form and earned another national team call-up. He made his senior international debut for Namibia in November 2025 during the international friendlies against Comoros.
His move to Scottland FC came after Okahandja United chairman Congo Hindjou sent his highlights to the club’s management, who were impressed enough to invite him for trials in Zimbabwe.
“The trials were not easy at all,” Witbeen says. “The intensity was much higher than what I was used to in Namibia, but I believed in myself. On my first day, I scored a hat-trick in the training match, which gave me confidence.”
His performances throughout the trial period convinced Scottland’s technical team, who immediately opened transfer negotiations with Okahandja United.
Witbeen also credited fellow Namibian Moses Shidolo, who is already at Scottland FC, for helping him settle during the trials.
“Moses encouraged and motivated me every day. We played together in Botswana, so he knows my qualities. It wasn’t easy, but he was always there to guide me.”
The winger described joining the Zimbabwean champions as a dream come true and believes the move is proof that self-belief and perseverance can open doors.
“I’ve signed a two-year contract with Scottland FC and I’m very happy. It’s all about belief,” he says.
Witbeen becomes the 13th Namibian footballer currently playing in the Zimbabwe Premier League. The Namibian contingent is spread across six clubs: Scottland FC (Shidolo and Witbeen), FC Platinum (Isaskar Gurirab, Mbakondja Tjahikika and Vitapi Ngaruka), Simba Bhora FC (McCartney Nawaseb, Leevi Alfeus, Kennedy Eib, Junior Petrus and Sergio Damaseb), HardRock FC (Sisqo Haraseb), MWOS FC (David Ndeunyema) and Triangle FC (Sadney Urikhob).
