The second edition of the wine tasting event at the National Independence Memorial Museum restaurant this Saturday will see various activities, including wine tasting, live music and an art exhibition.
The event is organised by Lovers and Friends Wine Club, which was established in 2021 to allow club members access to the best wines. The club also hosts wine-tasting events for wine lovers to taste their unique and best wines, while entertaining them with different art activities.
Club founder and one of the organisers of the event, Silas Sindano Martin, says after a successful and promising first event last month, they are expecting new people to attend since they have tried to reach a wider audience.
“The club’s objective is to educate and introduce them to the best wines in the market,” says Martin, adding that they guide customers on how to choose good wine in the market as well.
The event will showcase wines ranging from sweet to dry white. “All our wines are handpicked,” says Martin, adding that they are representing many wineries at the moment “but are looking forward to working with some wineries”.
The club has added a few activities to its upcoming event such as the art exhibition to give artists a platform to showcase their works.
“Since the event is still growing, we only managed to get one visual artist for the exhibition, Elias Salatiel [well-known as Qondja],” says Martin.
Qondja is a self-taught visual artist, specialising in realistic pencil drawing to sketch portraits.
He started drawing at the age of nine, sketching the ‘Shakes Shikongo’ comic character and nature. “His work captivated my attention and I contacted him to be part of the event,” says Martin.
There will also be a live performance by an Afro-jazz musician, Damasfusion.
Damasfusion’s music is a fusion of Afro chants, rich in clicks of the Khoe language, folk tales, and complex southern African rhythms, with colourful and bold sounds of jazz.
“In the future, we are going to involve wine experts at our events. We are working on the next event already, which is going to be on wine and food pairing.”
