Windhoek West special voting yields only five voters before noon

The Windhoek West constituency has recorded only five votes in Monday’s regional council and local authority elections by midday.

This was confirmed by presiding officer Petrine Andima at the Emma Hoogenhout Primary School polling station.

Special voting for police officers and polling officials commenced on Monday at 09h00 and the polls will close at 19h00.

“So far, the turnout has been greeted with five to six people who have cast their votes, but as the day progresses we expect this number to increase,” Andima said.

Suiderhof Primary School polling station presiding officer Hendriene Alfried on Monday said movement at the station has been slow so far, but she anticipates an increase later.

She said there have been no hiccups thus far.
