Windhoek man arrested after girlfriend dies following an assault

The police have arrested a Namibian male (35) for the death of his girlfriend, who died in her sleep following an alleged assault.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, in a police report on Sunday, said the suspect had an argument with his girlfriend at Goreangab Dam at around 23h00 and 05h00 between Friday and Saturday.

“He beat her up with his fists and,thereafter, both slept. Upon waking up, the suspect realised the girlfriend was not responding,” she said.

The suspect allegedly reported the incident to his uncle who took him to Wanaheda Police Station.

Shikwambi said the next of kin were informed and police investigation continue.

A 53-year-old male suspect attacked a female victim (38) with a stone at Soetdorinklaagte location at Stampriet on Saturday between 02h00 and 06h00.

Shikwambi said the stone allegedly hit the woman on the head and she sustained an open wound.

“The suspect is arrested and police investigations continue,” she said.
