Windhoek High School pays tribute to former deputy head girl killed in car accident

Windhoek High School has paid tribute to its former deputy head girl, Jana Grove (21), who died in a car accident between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja on Friday.

The crash claimed four lives.

Tributes for Grove have been pouring in from former school mates on social media. She matriculated from the school in 2023.

“Jana embodied the true spirit of the Blue School – committed, kind, humble, and dedicated to excellence.

“Her light touched many, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her,” the school wrote on its official social media page on Tuesday.

Grove died along with Christina Prinsloo (57), a South African citizen, and Chirise Steyn (80), a Namibian national.

An unidentified 60-year-old woman also died as a result of the accident.

Otjozondjupa region police spokesperson Maureen Mbeha in a media statement over the weekend said the four people died after three vehicles crashed into each other approximately 33 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo towards Okahandja at around 13h00.

A sedan allegedly swerved into the right lane on a slippery, rain-soaked road and crashed into an oncoming bakkie. A second sedan behind the bakkie then collided into the first sedan with severe impact.

A total of 13 people, including the drivers, were involved in the three-vehicle road accident, Mbeha said.

She added that nine people sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were first taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital, after which some were transferred to Windhoek hospitals.
