THE water supply to Windhoek has been restored to normal levels after a short-circuit caused a fire at a pump station close to the Von Bach Dam, which cut water connections to the City.
On Monday, the Windhoek municipality instructed Windhoek residents to stop watering gardens, washing cars or wasting water in any other way until today. These restrictions have been lifted with immediate effect.”The City has now again reached normal supply levels in its reservoirs,” municipal spokesman Ndangi Katoma said in a statement yesterday. He said tap water might have an unusual colour because of the disruption, but this posed no health risk.Katoma thanked Windhoek residents for their understanding and co-operation.The water shortage caused bulk users like Meatco and Namibia Breweries to drastically reduce production.Meatco had to write off N$2,4 million due to production losses.
