Tjipura took the incentive to start the business that serves a variety of foods that come with braaivleis, called Hita Braai. Hita Braai in her home language, Otjiherero, translates to ‘come in-braai.’
Tjipura says after months of preparation, the business is up and running. After she observed that braaivleis was only available at street stands where quality assurance was not guaranteed, the idea of establishing a braaivleis business was born.
“This is a business idea that I’ve had for the past year and it only came to existence about two weeks ago”, she says.
Operating from Khomas Grove Mall in the Windhoek suburb of Khomasdal, she says the business, which opened two weeks ago has been showing positive results so far.
The company operates in collaboration with the Windhoek Fastfood delivery services and delivers braaivleis all over Windhoek for only N$25 per delivery.
Tjipura says Hita Braai serves braaivleis with boerewors, rooster brood, potato salad, sosaties, meatballs and have recently served the business’ first separate plate of pap en vleis, a staple for many in Namibia.
She runs the business with her business partner, Amanda Kamburona. “My partner is the main chef of the business and I do the general managing, marketing and advertising for the business”, Tjipura says, adding that Namibians who have feasible business ideas must go into self-employment.
“Starting a business should not be about the money. I believe focus and persistence come first and then the money follows later”, she says.
Tjipura says she has a masters in business administration but could never stomach the thought of being employed. She says an MBA is supposed to equip one with skills to identify opportunities in order to create one’s own initiatives.
She has also established her own business consulting company, which caters for government, the private sector and NGOs.
Kamburona says she is in charge of inventing recipes for the company.
