Sweet Side of Thingz, a Windhoek-based bakery, launched its Ceramic Painting Experience over the weekend, offering customers a chance to combine creativity with its signature baked goods.

The new initiative allows participants to personalise ceramic items while enjoying cakes and pastries in a relaxed, social setting.

“We wanted to go beyond baking and give people an experience that is interactive and fun,” says co-founder Vernice Plaatje, who runs the business with her aunt, Claudine Mouton.

“It is about slowing down, being creative and spending quality time with people you care about, all while enjoying a good slice of cake.”

The launch drew families, friends and art enthusiasts, with many praising the experience.

Janine Piehl has described it as “a good place to come and clear your mind, bond and connect with our inner selves,” while Cassandra von Finckenstein calls the activity “fun and family-friendly”, adding that she would gladly return.

Sweet Side of Thingz started as a small kitchen project, baking for relatives and friends, before developing into a business recognised for custom cakes and welcoming service. The new activity marks an expansion into interactive experiences.

Beyond ceramic painting, the bakery plans to diversify further. According to Plaatje, future offerings will include light meals and lunches, mobile services at weekend markets and themed events for groups such as team-building sessions and private celebrations.

With its latest addition, Sweet Side of Thingz aims to blend food, creativity and connection into a single experience.
