Win With MoveWindhoek

Looking to make an impact with your photography and promote urban public transport at the same time? Well, now you can do just that with MoveWindhoek’s September photo competition.

Firstly, like and follow MoveWindhoek on all their social media pages. Then the creativity comes in. Take to the streets and use your camera or smartphone to capture some pedestrians making use of sustainable public transport.

This can either be a photo of buses or taxis, or people walking or riding their bicycles along the road. Off-topic entries will be disqualified.

Now all you have to do is upload your best pictures to social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. A maximum of three entries per person are allowed. Remember to use the hashtag #MoveWindhoek.

According to MoveWindhoek, “you may upload your pictures on one or more social media channels, however, in either case, the picture with the most likes on one platform wins”.

The likes on the photo will determine the three winners. Winners will be announced and notified by MoveWindhoek at beginning of October. Their pictures will be featured on MoveWindhoek’s social media and might be used for advertising purposes and publication in the future. The contest will run for the entire month of September.

The lucky winners will receive a bicycle for first place, a voucher for running shoes for second place and the third place winner will receive a bus ride smart card.

Remember, if your account is on private, MoveWindhoek will not be able to see your uploads. The more hashtags you use, the more likes you generate on your photos. #MoveWindhoek is essential to find your picture, but #PublicTransport, #LetsMoveWindhoekTogether, #AffordableTransport, #UrbanTransport, #RoadSafety and #NamTransport can also be used.

The City of Windhoek also issued a press release earlier last month saying bus fare will increase. A smart card trip will cost N$6 while a cash fare trip will be N$7.

“All passengers travelling with municipal buses are required to obtain receipts from bus drivers every time they enter the bus in exchange of their payments with immediate effect,” CoW stated in a document.

“Any passenger not in position of a receipt will be regarded as an illegal passenger in the bus and the bus inspectors or city police officers will demand payment for the trip or he/she will ask you to leave the bus. In cases where the drivers refuse to provide a passenger with a receipt, he/she should be reported to the inspector or city police officer at the nearest checkpoint,” the statement read.
