Ryan Williams shattered his national discus record by more than three metres at an Athletics South Africa meeting in Potchefstroom on Wednesday night.

Williams finished second in the men’s discus with a distance of 61,15m, with South Africa’s Victor Hogan taking the gold medal with a distance of 62,95m.

Williams’ throw, however, shattered his own Namibian record of 57,65 metres that he established in Sasolburg, South Africa last year.

Other Namibians who competed at the event also put in good performances.

Ivan Danny Geldenhuys came third in the men’s 400m in 47,07 seconds, while Andre Retief came third in the men’s 400m hurdles in a new personal best time of 50,86 seconds.
