Will Tjongarero be fired? Mootu questions presidency

Landless People’s Movement chief whip Utaara Mootu has questioned whether sport minister Agnes Tjongarero will be fired for the delayed renovations of Windhoek’s Independence Stadium.

Mootu on Tuesday in the National Assembly questioned minister in the presidency Christine //Hoebes about what will be done about the sport, youth and national service minister’s lack of action regarding the renovations.

“Given the severity of the situation and failure of the sport ministry to act within the allocated time frame,
will you be advising the president to take immediate action, including the possible dismissal of the minster? If not, what justifies retaining the minister in her position?” Mootu questioned.

The lawmaker also queried the motive behind vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s criticism of Tjongarero for failing to start renovations of the stadium.

“With elections on the horizon, there is a growing perception that these actions are a political stunt aimed at swaying the youth vote. Can you assure the public that this is not merely a tactic to influence voters, and will decisive action be taken before the election period begins?” asked Mootu.
