When Fashion Meets Music

Last Saturday, something really cool happened in Windhoek: Couture by Hoxx hosted a fashion event which combined fashion and music.

The event was attended by different fashion industry personalities, with local DJs showing off their skills and cash prizes awarded to the best-dressed attendees.

Model Leena Shipwata says she is happy people showed up, as hosting a fashion event at a club is challenging.

“Back in the days Namibians weren’t really keen on dressing up according to themes and stuff, but people really showed up, so I’m happy about that,” she says.

Shipwata says three randomly selected people each won a cash prize.

The first prize was N$2 000, the second prize was N$1 000, and the third prize N$500.

“These were just people we saw, and we went up to them, announced it on the mic, and, you know, everybody congratulated them,” she says.

“Coming up with an idea like this makes people comfortable to get creative with fashion,” she says.

Shipwata says the highlight of the evening was the best-dressed person, as she loves seeing visions coming to life.

“I like to see people putting in effort in the way they dress, and the event was very interactive.

“People would come up to me and ask me if I thought they were the best dressed, or what I would have done differently with their outfits,” she says.

Shipwata says the night was full of bling and glitter.

“It was what a fashion event is supposed to be, even though it was in a club,” she says.

She says local artists should put their ideas into action to conquer the entertainment industry.

“This was just an idea. Nobody assumed or thought it would be that much of a success. But people pulled up, people pulled through, and they liked the fashion aspect of it.

“If you’re new in entertainment, start with what you have, collaborate and market your work,” she says.
