What’s On For LMPC in 2017

Last year was a good year for Namibian rapper LMPC, with the release of his album ‘Wish Me Luck’ and being nominated at the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs).

LMPC who last year was one of Ogopa Butterfly’s promising young talents, has recently broken away from the label, which may leave you wondering what’s next on the cards for the rapper. When asked what 2017 has in store for him, LMPC said “hopefully love and the release of my debut album”.

Since breaking away from Ogopa Butterfly, Jean Emmery Ngabo-Shingiro, LMPC’s manager, said the artist is currently looking to reinvent himself, therefore he considers his next album his debut album, instead of the one released under his previous label. “He considers ‘Wish Me Luck’ more of a ‘mixtape’ now,” Ngabo-Shingiro said.

LMPC mentioned that he’s been working on this album since March 2016. On his current project, the rapper says there is currently no one he wants to work with, however one name did come up. “Not really, but I really wish I could’ve worked with the late Jackson Kaujeua,” LMPC said.

In a previous interview, LMPC told The Namibian’s YouthPaper that he was exposed to various genres like hip hop, R&B, jazz, dancehall, kizomba and kwasa kwasa from a young age, and this influenced the sound and feel of ‘Wish Me Luck’.

This time around, the rapper mentioned that he aims to bring more of himself to the forefront with his new album. “This album is about being almost fully transparent. Talking about my highs and lows, good qualities I have and the bad ones I’m still working on but I express and explain through the music so we’ll all just have to wait until it drops,” he said.

LMPC added that with his new work, he aims to make music that will transcend generations and represent himself to the fullest. “I plan on topping this year by creating and releasing content without compromising my integrity, fully speaking and representing not only myself but my generation and the ones that come after it,” he said.

This is a similiar sentiment LMPC had when working on ‘Wish Me Luck’. “I get inspired by the things that happen in my life, the people in my life. Girls, friends and a lot of feelings. I like to tell my stories, I really find it hard to write anything fake or anything that never happened to me. I don’t like to ‘spice’ just so that it sounds more appealing,” he said previously.

Guess we have to just wait and see what awaits us on LMPC’s new offering.
