American politics continues to progress in ways you would never expect, and now the ever-growing chasm has the left and the right at a stalemate with regard to the use of particular language.
Liberals in America are asking for medical information to now utilise more inclusive wording that respects everyone”;s self-identity. For instance, instead of referring to “pregnant women”, activists say terms like “people with uteruses” or “birthing people” should be used so as not to alienate trans men and non-binary people who may have female reproductive capabilities but do not identify with the word “woman”.
Those opposed to this new use of language, however, feel that language is already inclusive, because they reject the basic concept of being transgender. To them, “woman” is already inclusive enough because in their eyes, you”;re still a woman whether you consider yourself one or not (if you are one biologically).
So, naturally, chaos is bound to ensue when you have one group who believes that being a woman or being a man is in our blood, and another group that believes gender is something someone can identify with, regardless of their genetic make-up.
This column is titled “;What Is a Woman?”; because I think that is the crux of the argument.
If it”;s not biological, then what is it?
I mean, I know I”;m a woman. But I always thought it was because I just happened to be born with ovaries and oestrogen and all that. I”;ve never had any issue with it and I”;ve never really felt it”;s an extremely crucial part of my identity.
If that isn”;t what makes me a woman, I”;m so curious what is? What exactly is someone identifying as when they identify as a woman?
Someone who likes pink and dolls and dresses and having long hair? Someone soft, caring and nurturing?
Or is it more an abstract concept that one simply knows they are?
Whatever it is, I think the left”;s approach to this issue could be improved.
I think they aren”;t taking into account the fact that humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and have existed in a gender and sex binary for the majority of that time period.
The idea that gender is not determined by physical characteristics but rather by an inner feeling is extremely new, rare and, honestly, for most humans alive right now a completely and utterly unfathomable, illogical and insane premise.
Not because they are hateful and exclusionary (and yes, I know many people are) but because humans, like other mammals, are a sexually dichotomous species.
For activists to now just want to change the meanings of words and then try to gaslight everyone into believing it”;s always been that way is an interesting tactic. In combination with the “;cancelling”;, harassment and zero-tolerance mobbing, it is all so insane!
