Wendy’s Creations does Wedding of Year again

WENDY’S Creations’ annual Wedding of the Year took place in all its usual glitz and glamour last Saturday despite

This time the newlyweds – American Chris McEwan and Namibia’s Susan Ndemula – held their nuptials at Gross Barmen against a colour palette of black and white, with a dash of gold.

The owner of Wendy’s Creations Windeline Kausiona has been hosting the annual event for seven years, in order to showcase wedding design and styling trends and create local wedding decor inspiration for couples. Kausiona admits that this was a difficult year for many in the wedding industry, but as one of the pioneers, she is constantly trying to encourage event service providers not to give up despite the abrupt shutdown of the industry early in March.

“I deliberately went ahead with the customary annual Wedding of the Year initiative despite the Covid-19 challenges to revive and give hope back to couples and fellow wedding service providers. “Covid-19 abruptly shut down the global events industry. None of us ever imagined that this could happen. I suffered huge financial losses – projected revenue of N$3,5 million from March to September. It is going to take me years to recover.”

This year Kausiona made history by pulling off the first ever swimming pool altar ceremony. She said constructing a swimming pool altar for the first time required collaborative efforts with the structural gurus DB Audio. “DB Audio constructed the deck and the ramp based on my design and specifications. The ceremony design had a ballerina dancing the bride down the aisle instead of the usual flower girl throwing petals.

This element was added to give guests a different but classic experience. The best part for me, however, was that the couple had no idea that their ceremony would be held on top of the swimming pool,” she said. “It was one of my dreams to make this couple’s wildest dream of having an island wedding right here in Namibia come true. Gross Barmen was the perfect venue as it also assisted Namibia Wildlife Resorts in their efforts to encourage local tourism and revive the sector,” she said.

Kausiona says the key décor elements focused on the customised 3D main table backdrop, the white floral and crystal roof installation also stood out. “The wellcoming area was designed with suspended floristry hanging from trusses, constructed by DB Audio that doubled up as a perfect photo area for guests as it attracted attention. All décor pieces were custom-made to bring a sense of sophisticated elegance to the wedding,” she said.

Kausiona is thrilled about the success of the event which not only turned the couple’s dream into a reality, but also gave hope to many couples that during this challenging time, hosting a small and intimate wedding with a few close friends and family can still be as beautiful.

“The event was much smaller and much classier this year. I love doing smaller events. The smaller the event you design, the more elegant and intimate it can be.”

Kausiona is adamant that Namibia has the craftsmanship and passion to deliver state- of-the-art wedding designs. For more information, find Wendy’s Creations on social media.
