Wellem Cosmetics’ new and improved beard oil

EARLIER this month, Wellem Cosmetics launched its second product, the new and improved beard oil, which also honours the company's one year anniversary.

Managing director Wellem Kapenda says the beard oil is formulated for coarse facial hair.

“It contains smoothing and softening properties, leaving facial hair feeling silky, while the skin below gets an extra dose of hydration. This 50ml bottle of vegan greatness also helps with natural growth, styling, and offers a masculine and alluring scent. This product is 100% me, and that is what I mean by new and improved,” he says.

Wellem Cosmetics, an online vegan unisex brand which specialises in skincare and grooming products, launched its first product, a beard conditioner, on 8 August 2021.

Kapenda says the idea of starting a skincare company came to him two years ago. At first he had no idea how he could turn the idea into reality, so he began to do some research.

“The idea of Wellem Cosmetics literally started off as an idea on my phone, and now it's a fully operational business. I spent many months educating myself on skincare products, the ingredients they were made from, and how to create a cosmetic range. This was not an easy task, but I am grateful for being blessed with an amazing team behind me.”

Kapenda's main vision for the brand is to present skincare in a way that is inclusive to all. He wants his products to make people feel good and comfortable in their own skin.

Over the years, Kapenda has encountered a lot of setbacks, but the success that he is enjoying today came because he was determined to not give up.

“My main challenge was the fact that I had to start a business in the middle of a pandemic, so I was obviously limited in doing a lot of things. It was most challenging trying to assemble the perfect team, especially when you have to deal with multiple personalities virtually.

“I encountered a lot of setbacks due to the pandemic, which resulted in financial loss, and time constraints which led to postponing the initial release date of the product. Fortunately, even with a very diverse group of individuals, we managed to collaborate in terms of ideas, and come up with an amazing project, which is Wellem Cosmetics,” he says.

The cosmetics and beauty industry in Namibia is female dominated, says Kapenda. This is why Wellem Cosmetics aims to break stereotypes, and offers a fresh approach to skincare, regardless of skin tone, texture and type.

“So far, people have been very responsive to the brand, which led to us being featured in British GQ for their 'Grooming Marvellous' December 2021 issue.

“I am truly grateful that my vision is finally coming to life and that I can share my passion with the world. I'm looking forward to working with local young professionals,” he says.

The oil is available at www.wellemcosmetics.com, and at some pharmacies and other outlets across the country.
