Weatherman sounds a wet warning

HEAVY rain is expected countrywide from today until Monday, and people are urged to take necessary precautions.

“The rains are seriously coming,” said weatherman Victor Kaurimuje yesterday. Kaurimuje said the rain will cover the whole country and could cause hardship, especially to people in shacks.Of the rainfall figures measured yesterday morning, Oshikuku in Omusati and Karasburg in the South shared the top spot with 40 millimetres.They were followed by Otjiwarongo with 36,8 mm.Okaukuejo received 31 mm, Aroab 24,4, Okahandja 20, Rehoboth 19,8 and Aranos 14 mm.The good rains this month have raised the level of most of Namibia’s storage dams.The Von Bach Dam, supplying water to most of central Namibia, stands at 67,8 per cent of full capacity, much higher than the 37,7 per cent of this time last year.The Goreangab Dam on the outskirts of Windhoek is standing at a whopping 102,8 per cent.Last season it stood at 99,5 per cent.The Hardap Dam near Mariental is 61,4 per cent full, compared to last season’s figure of 38,4 per cent.Kaurimuje said the rain will cover the whole country and could cause hardship, especially to people in shacks.Of the rainfall figures measured yesterday morning, Oshikuku in Omusati and Karasburg in the South shared the top spot with 40 millimetres.
