We Need Credits, Not Critics

I HAVE been following some of Dr Henning Melber’s speeches, and he is constantly criticising our (Namibian) leadership, our vision and progress.

Does Namibia need to give Dr Melber the title of President to show us how the country is ruled? He has freedom of expression, but we also need honour and respect. A one-bedroom house with a single person cannot always have 100% of everything, and Namibia is not an exception either. We are a young nation with close to 2 million citizens. What we need is to have is national pride.I am aware that poverty, corruption and many other problems exist in my motherland that need to be uprooted, but I think comments like those of Dr Melber’s will tarnish Namibia’s image on the world map.Namibia is not an isolated island somewhere, but whoever considers him/herself a true Namibian needs to be proud of our current achievements. We are far better off than many world nations.I think it is even better to have home-based researchers rather than foreign-based (and possibly foreign-influenced) ones! Please, we need credits as well, not always critics!
