Water supply to Karibib, nearby communities and key institutions has been disrupted following a pump failure at the Swakoppoort Dam, NamWater said on Thursday.
The interruption affects the Karibib Town Council, Navachab Mine, the Karibib army base, the Spes Bona community, the Otjimbingwe urban and rural areas, as well as customers along the Karibib-Otjimbingwe pipeline.
NamWater said the disruption was caused by a faulty abstraction pump at the Swakoppoort-Okongava water supply system.
“Our technical team is currently on site at the Swakoppoort Dam installing a new abstraction pump,” NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said.
He said the installation work is expected to be completed by 20 January, after which water supply should stabilise.
NamWater has asked the Karibib Town Council to take precautionary measures and urged all affected customers to use water sparingly until repairs are completed.
“We kindly request all affected customers to use available water sparingly to mitigate potential supply disruptions until normal operations are restored,” Ndamanomhata said.
NamWater said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on the restoration of water supply, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
