Water still rationed at Walvis

THE complete exhaustion of water resources is no longer a major threat at homes and industries in Walvis Bay.

According to the Walvis Bay Municipality’s media officer, Utaara Hoveka, water is being pumped continuously into the reservoir at Mile 7 – still the only reservoir feeding the town. Hoveka said the supply would still be cut off during the night for approximately two weeks. This measure is necessary to accumulate a reasonable level of water reserves, since NamWater is currently able to pump 500 cubic metres of water per hour into the reservoir while the town’s hourly consumption is close to 700 cubic metres.Tap water will therefore not be available between 22h00 and 06h00.Hoveka said the supply would still be cut off during the night for approximately two weeks. This measure is necessary to accumulate a reasonable level of water reserves, since NamWater is currently able to pump 500 cubic metres of water per hour into the reservoir while the town’s hourly consumption is close to 700 cubic metres.Tap water will therefore not be available between 22h00 and 06h00.
