Warriors draw Tunisia in World Cup qualifiers

Collin Benjamin

Brave Warriors head coach Collin Benjamin says he and the team look forward to an “exciting” 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Confederation of African Football held the draw for the qualifiers in Ivory Coast on Thursday.

Namibia are grouped alongside big hitters Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, Malawi and Liberia.

“The group looks exciting and with great prospects and equally distributed from a zonal and strength prospective,” Benjamin told The Namibian Sport when reacting to the draw.

Unfortunately, his homeless Warriors will likely play all their home matches in South Africa unless a stadium of the required standard is constructed before the qualifying campaign ends.

The qualifiers will take place over ten match days starting from 13 to 21 November 2023 and concluding from 10 to 18 November 2025, when the play-offs are held.

“It would be great to play some games at home. As a matter of fact it will be a dream to play at home with our president in attendance. The Braves will leave blood and tears on the Independence Stadium for sure,” a hopeful Benjamin said.

The winners of each of the nine groups will automatically qualify for the World Cup, with the four best runners-up contesting in a play-off tournament for one more spot.
