Warning To Gibeon Leaders

Warning To Gibeon Leaders

I WAS born and bred in Gibeon.I completed my grade 12 at Oaseb SSS.

For employment purposes I live in Mariental. My heart and soul is still in Gibeon. This letter goes to the community leaders of Gibeon.Leaders of Gibeon should not forget that Gibeon has capable leaders who live or stay in other towns. We follow the current situation in Gibeon very closely. The concept of community activism is a strange phenomenon in the village of Gibeon. The leaders in Gibeon find it strange that the community is able to organise themselves to express their concerns about development and other issues. The community of Gibeon is poor materially but not intellectually. The leaders tend to question the ability of the community to take action.Leaders, please do not suppress the people. It is their right to speak out publicly about their rights.Leaders of Gibeon, you are not untouchable. The people are not in the pre-independent era, but are now fifteen years away from that era.Stop underestimating the abilities of the community. If one does not speak out on problems with development and other issues, some will think that things are going smoothly and that the community is satisfied. As far as community activism is concerned, do not victimise people with unfounded and destructive remarks or allegations.Leaders of Gibeon should take cognisance of the fact that changes in Gibeon will benefit all the inhabitants of Gibeon. It seems that the leadership is not used to petitions and counteractions by a group of people or individuals.Keep in mind that responsibly taken actions by virtue of factual grounds speak of democracy.Don’t underestimate the community. They are able to make informed decisions on issues that concern them.Let me tell you that community activism, community leaders, could be a strange phenomenon in Gibeon but not in other parts of our country.Stop victimising people or individuals who take action.Instead of that, create structures to initiate open talk with the people on issues raised by the people.Don’t play down people’s concerns and don’t incite hatred and set people against each other. This is not leadership.Son Of The Soil MarientalMy heart and soul is still in Gibeon. This is not leadership.Son Of The Soil Mariental
