Wanderers stretch their lead

WANDERERS stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League Rugby log with a big win against Walvis Bay, while there were also surprise away wins for Reho Falcons and United over the weekend.

Wanderers ran in nine tries in a 59 10 victory against Walvis Bay at their home ground in Pionierspark to complete a double bonus point win against the coastal outfit.

Centre MP Pretorius, lock Stef Botha and flanker Royal Otto scored two tries each for Wanderers; eighthman Alberto Engelbrecht and scrum half Edwardo Nell scored one each; while they were also awarded a penalty try. Full back Leaan Stoop converted seven tries for a personal tally of 14 points.

The result puts Wanderers on 40 points 11 ahead of second placed United who climbed two positions after a thrilling 24 23 away win against Rehoboth.

Rehoboth held a 20 12 midway through the second half but a late onslaught by United saw them grabbing the win.

A try by centre Martin Cronje reduced the deficit to 20 17 and a late try by wing Nandivatu Karuuombe, crucially converted by Winmar Rust, gave them a one point victory.

In the first half, Rust and hooker Dewald Nell also scored tries with Rust converting one.

Rehoboth scored three tries through full back Nathan van Wyk, flanker Cheniel van Rooi and flyhalf Nazeem Swarts, while Swarts added two penalties and a conversion.

At Suburbs Park, Reho Falcon scored an impressive 21 15 victory against Western Suburbs, after leading 10 3 at halftime.

Falcons scored two tries through prop Reginald Areab and fly half Lariano van Wyk, while scrum half Collin de Koe added three penalties and one conversion.

Full back Ricardo Swarts scored all Suburbs’ points, consisting of a try, three penalties and a conversion.

Unam remained third on the log on 28 points after beating Kudus 22 5 in Walvis Bay.

Unam scored three tries through Unomisa Kavita, Thomas Kali and Zikamee Kaura while Lorenzo Louis added two conversions and a penalty. Kudus’ hooker and captain Chris Klassen scored their only points through a try.
