WINDHOEK – The Walvis Municipality won the Southern African Inter Municipal (SAIM) Games held at the coastal town recently.
Walvis Bay Municipality emerged as the overall winner with gold medals for volleyball (men and female) and silver medals for golf and netball, respectively. Competing for top honours were Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.Walvis Bay acting chief executive officer Muronga Haingura said it was the municipality’s intention to continue supporting and participating in similar events in future.He added that his municipality would rally behind and encourage other local authorities in Namibia to take up the challenge of hosting the SAIM Games in future, adding that various local authorities have the capacity and experience to successfully host an event of that magnitude.The event attracted a record 2 500 delegates from municipalities of the four participating countries.Competing for top honours were Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.Walvis Bay acting chief executive officer Muronga Haingura said it was the municipality’s intention to continue supporting and participating in similar events in future.He added that his municipality would rally behind and encourage other local authorities in Namibia to take up the challenge of hosting the SAIM Games in future, adding that various local authorities have the capacity and experience to successfully host an event of that magnitude.The event attracted a record 2 500 delegates from municipalities of the four participating countries.
