Walvis Bay wants its own municipal police

THE Municipality of Walvis Bay is looking at establishing a municipal police force.

A public survey has been conducted to gauge the response of residents to the proposal. One of the survey questions is how much residents would be willing to pay for such a force.”Before the Council takes any decisions, we wanted to take surveys”, said Public Relations Manager Kevin Adams. When asked why the Council had taken the step, he said that it was based on the outcome of public meetings and an increase in crime at the harbour town.A series of public meetings was held last year on the establishment of such a police force. The deadline for the submission of the survey is today.
