The Volkswagen Tiguan can be summed up in one word: comfort.
Founded 90 years ago with the Beetle as the affordable “people’s car”, Volkswagen (VW) has retained this philosophy, offering a range of models for every need.
Once available only with petrol engines, the Tiguan now returns to VW’s roots with a diesel-powered option for the sedan market.
Johan Bronkhorst, sales executive at Autohaus Swakopmund, told Top Revs that the vehicle is priced between N$650 000 and N$900 000.
The Tiguan offers exactly what owners expect, including safety and security features, fuel efficiency, and a balance between performance and lifestyle comfort. Some models even include massage functions and stylish alloy rims.
Driving comfort is enhanced by electromechanical power steering with a speed-sensitive control setting. Airbags are fitted for all occupants, including front and side curtain airbags.
Drivers will need to familiarise themselves with the autonomous braking system, which activates if the vehicle senses a potential collision at low speeds. Top Revs tested the system as Bronkhorst demonstrated it during a reverse parking manoeuvre. The system helps prevent crashes and damage to surrounding areas.
Warning signals on the console alert the driver if safety belts are not fastened, while the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warns of incorrect tyre pressure, improving safety and prolonging tyre life.
Park distance control assists with reverse parking, making the process stress-free. Other safety features include lane change and blind spot assist, as well as an anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring, backup horn, and towing protection.
Many buyers often overlook the importance of seats. This is where drivers and passengers spend most of their time. Uncomfortable seats can lead to fatigue.
Front seats are adjustable for optimum comfort, with lumbar support, safety-optimised head restraints, and fabric or leather upholstery. Some models feature a massage system for both driver and front passenger.
Fuel economy is rated at 7.6 L/100 km on a combined urban and extra-urban cycle, with the R-Line 2.0 TDI 4-Motion achieving 6.6 L/100 km. Top speed is limited to 207 km/h, with 0 to100 km/h acceleration in under 10 seconds for all models.
The Tiguan comes with a standard three-year/120 000 km guarantee and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
