Acting Namibia Football Association (NFA) secretary general Mabos Vries has pledged to stabilise the association while addressing critical stadium shortages and fixture delays.

This follows his recent appointment by the NFA’s executive council with effect from 1 February.

“I took the responsibility, not as a substantive secretary general (SG), but rather in an acting capacity until a more substantive SG is appointed,” he says.

Vries says he is, however, not excited about his new job.

“This comes with huge responsibility. I will do my best, and I guarantee you things will not fall apart,” he says.

Before the appointment, Vries was the Namibia Premier Football League’s administrator.

He says the former acting SG, Cassius Moetie, has returned to his position as marketing and communications manager.

He says there will be internal discussions on the appointment of a new Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) administrator.

“We want to appoint a suitable person and that must be a person with football knowledge, who is passionate about the game,” he says.

STADIUM STRUGGLES

In a recent interview with Desert FM, Vries said the NPFL is faced with the major challenge of a lack and availability of football stadiums.

“To me that was and still is the number one problem,” he said.

Vries called on the different clubs to adhere to security measures at the playing field and said clubs that are failing to do so .

The new football sheriff says the 2025/26 football season might not conclude as planned because of the different breaks, such as the Brave Warriors being scheduled to take part in the Fifa series in March and April.

Vries said the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup will be held over the Easter weekend at Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas region.
