Voting Against Wintertime

SORRY to say the time change to wintertime is an illogical, irritating law. When I came out of the fitness studio on Monday morning April 6 at quarter to six after the switchover I almost forgot to put my car lights on, because dawn had advanced so much since Saturday 4 April 2009.

Half past six it’s full daylight and many children can go to school safely. There are quite a few schools that have afternoon school sessions in order to accommodate all scholars. What about them? Are they not vulnerable on their way home after darkness? And what about soccer, hockey, netball, rugby training and other extramural activities? There are no floodlights available and who guarantees their coming home an hour later? If we were really concerned about the scholars, then let only schools start half an hour later during the actual three winter months and let everybody else do business as usual. Such an arrangement would not upset the afternoon classes by a full hour but half an hour – this would be a compromise when daylight is anyway reduced during winter season. Thus share the burden. Think of the younger ones waiting for mommies and daddies to come home hours after dark from work. Why do we try to do something against AIDS if we force vulnerable women and children to move around long after dark or be without parents’ care? Are you aware that in winter the streetlights are switched on at approximately quarter past five? So, we don’t save electricity whilst now the sun is high up in the tree tops of the 50-year-old palm trees when people go to work at say twenty to eight in the mornings. Have the lawmakers ever thought of the handicapped, say brain-damaged people? Their routine is totally turned upside down, whilst everybody else tries to adapt or die. Every meal will be an hour later within the anyway difficult household. Time change hits everybody. It is same with other sick people, old people or babies. When the Trans-Caprivi highway was under construction, time was definitely not changed in that area as otherwise work would have had to be stopped at 16h00. Business with our most important trade neighbours remains important and should also be reconsidered.Such a law correction back to NO TIME CHANGE but summertime all year round would be in the interest of all citizens.WakyVia e-mail
