Voter registration at 71%, as conclusion nears

The Electoral Commission announced today that 1 153 916 eligible Namibians are now registered to vote.

This figure represents 71% of the eligible voter population registered between 3 June and 20 July 2024 inside the country and at all Namibian diplomatic missions abroad.

ECN chief electoral and referenda officer Peter Shaama said this is a slight decline compared to the turnout of the previous week (8-13 July 2024) at an average of 27 404 registered voters per day.

“While acknowledging the improvement in the cumulative turnout to date both at regional and constituency level, the commission remains optimistic that more Namibians will turn out to register within the remaining days,” he said.

The commission’s report highlights that the Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshana regions are leading with a 80% turnout, followed by the Kunene region with 75% and Erongo region with a 72% turnout.

Registration continues until 1 August.
