Von Bach dam now 43% full

THE level of the Von Bach Dam had reached 43,1 per cent by 16h00 yesterday, up from 28 per cent on Wednesday.

Another dam in the central interior, Swakoppoort, was at 58,1 per cent of its capacity. Hardap Dam near Mariental was at 38,6 per cent yesterday up from 35,9 per cent last Thursday.The Otjivero silt dam reached a peak of 122,4 per cent over the weekend.This caused water to spill into the Otjivero main dam which supplies Gobabis with water.Senior hydrologist at NamWater, Rolf Albrecht, said this resulted in silt and debris entering the main dam, which in the long term would cause the dam’s capacity to decrease.At 12h00 yesterday, the silt dam’s level stood at 120,1 per cent while that of the main dam stood at 18 per cent.Hardap Dam near Mariental was at 38,6 per cent yesterday up from 35,9 per cent last Thursday.
