A 16-member NASU swimming team recently attended the regional SA Level 1 Age Group swimming competition at the University of the Western Cape. Swimmers did very well and swam in 55 finals altogether.
The star of the team was undoubtedly the 10 year old Enrik von Alvensleben. Enrik returned with 2 Namibian records, 5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Enrik broke the boys ‘ 9-10 yr old 100m freestyle record of 1:11.29 held by Mikah Burger and set a new record of 1:10.83.
He also broke the longstanding 200m IM record of 2:57.06 held by Andre Eerenstein with a new time of 2:53.39.
He took gold medals for the 100m Freestyle, 200m IM, 200m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.
Silver was awarded to him for the 50m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, while he also added a bronze for the 50m Breaststroke.
The 12 year old Maximilian Betts won two gold medals in the 200m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke.
Jureck Johannesson (15) received a gold medal for his great effort in the 200m backstroke when he improved by 10,83s on his old time. He also had great swims in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke and received bronze for both events.
Nicole Redecker (12) received a gold medal for her excellent swim in the 200m Breaststroke and improved on her best time by 12,59s. She also swam very well in the 100 Breaststroke and received silver in that event.
Friedrich Setzkorn (12) reached 6 finals but made his mark in the 200m Backstroke for which he earned a bronze medal.
Tuané Silver (11) won a gold medal for the 50m Butterfly girls 11-12 category.
Corley Viljoen (10) made 5 finals and received a bronze medal. She also had a good swim in the 200m Freestyle by improving her time by 10.47s.
The rest of the team consisted of Jandre Botha, Ronald Jeffreys, Ariana Naukosha, Noah Nell, Hendrik Oosthuizen, Shanay Viljoen, Shuan Spangenberg and Sonique Spangenberg, who all had excellent swims and improved on their personal best times. The best improvement on a personal best time was that of Shanay Viljoen when she improved her 200m Freestyle time by 15.21s.
The Namibia Swimming Union (Nasu) congratulated all the swimmers on their excellent performances. Nasu and the Level 1 team also thanked the management team for a well-organized tour.
