Vice president Lucia Witbooi has praised the ||Kharas region for transforming from a marginalised area into an economic hub.
She said this at the 36th Independence Day celebration at Karasburg on Saturday.
Witbooi said the region has recorded significant progress across key sectors.
“This includes expansion of export-orientated agriculture along the Orange River, table grape production, agri-processing linked to the Naute, Neckartal Dam projects and continued growth in mining, fisheries and tourism,” she said.
Witbooi is encouraging all parents, especially from the ||Kharas region, to support children in taking up opportunities at the new Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre.
Witbooi acknowledged ongoing challenges in industrial activity, value addition, water, sanitation and housing.
She said the government is addressing these issues through projects at Noordoewer and Auas.
“The strategic development of Auas and broader investments across the region demonstrate our commitment to balanced national progress across all 14 regions of Namibia,” she said.
