The Former Refugee Repatriation Association of Namibia (FRRAN) are demanding grants and recognition of children born in exile.

FRRAN president Matheus Nangolo told The Namibian the association is also demanding the removal of veterans affairs from the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

“We are demanding that they remove the veteran department from the ministry of defence,” he said.

Nangolo was speaking at a protest to handover their petition to the Office of the President.

The association is demanding the construction of veteran housing and the erection of tombstones for deceased veterans.

General secretary Jona Nahenda has alleged that Office of the President has refused to meet with them to accept their petition.

In a letter seen by The Namibian, sent on Tuesday, the Office of the President referred the association to the minister of defence

“State protocol does not permit the Presidency to receive petitions.”

Nahenda, however, said the minister of defence says their demands are out of the ministry’s control.
