Van Wyk inspires SKW

MERCURIAL SKW frontman Marco van Wyk inspired his side to a 4-1 victory through a hat-trick over Hotspurs in an MTC Namibia Premier League match on Sunday.

Van Wyk, who has over the seasons has developed into a key player for his side, delivered a superb all-round performance on the day to push his side into second spot on the table, four points behind leaders African Stars. After taking a 2-0 halftime lead through goals by Van Wyk and Tjono Jagger, SKW seemed to be in charge, but Hotspurs pulled a goal back through Leonard Stanley and pressed hard for the equaliser. Van Wyk however stepped up a gear to score two late goals and seal a convincing victory for SKW.Van Wyk gave SKW an early lead when he scored from the penalty spot after a handball in Hotspurs’ box.Van Wyk and Guti Korukuve both came close with long-range efforts before Tjono Jagger slammed in SKW’s second goal, latching onto a cross by Van Wyk into the box.At the other end Leonard Stanley pressurised SKW’s defence with some fine dribbles, while Edward Asino missed a great chance when he couldn’t control the ball with an open goal gaping.Just before the break, Korukuve found the back of the net after a great throughball by Edmund Gowaseb, but the linesman raised his flag for offside.Hotspurs came out firing in the second half, putting SKW keeper Sven Wiedenroth under a lot of pressure. He collided with Stanley early on and had to receive treatment, and then saved bravely at Asino’s feet.Hotspurs’ pressure finally paid off when Stanley ran onto a long upfield clearance and headed it over the outrushing Wiedenroth into an empty net.Hotspurs wasted a great chance to equalise in the final minutes when Peinge Moses headed narrowly over the crossbar from a corner.SKW immediately made them pay when Van Wyk ran onto a Rene Traut pass and volleyed the ball past Tommy Shilumbu in Hotspurs’ goal. In injury time, Van Wyk raced onto a long upfield clearance, controlled the ball, and volleyed it past Shilumbu to complete his hat-trick.It was the only premiership match on Sunday, after most teams played on Saturday, while one was also held on Friday. – ww.namibiasport.com.na
