Namibian national cricketer Raymond van Schoor is in a critical, but stable condition after suffering a stroke in a cricket match against the Free State last weekend.
Van Schoor was batting when he complained of a headache and asked for some water. This was granted but while drinking the water, Van Schoor stumbled before being caught by his batting partner Nicolaas Scholtz.
He was carried off the field and taken to hospital by ambulance, where he has remained since then.
According to Van Schoor’s father, Melt, he is partially paralysed on his left side, but they are still waiting for the results of scans.
The president of Cricket Namibia, Richard Frankle meanwhile on Thursday issued the following statement on behalf of the Van Schoor family:
“Raymond is in ICU in a critical but stable condition. The family thank you for your support and prayers at this time and ask you to continue praying for him.
We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.
Updates on Raymond’s condition will be posted from time to time. For this reason, any queries regarding his condition should be directed to myself.
Please avoid any unconfirmed postings regarding his condition.”
