“Every producer’s dream is to create an amazing story that will reach a wide range of viewers and make an impact on different platforms, whether local or international,” says the producer of ‘Uushimba’, Gustav Nuuyoma
The award-winning film is set to premiere today in Harare’s Hub Small Theatre, as part of the 18th Zimbabwe International Film Festival.
Nuuyoma said: “It is not every day you produce a movie that will be recognised at the international level, so it’s an amazing thing for me to be able to do that at a very young age and it’s all thanks to us from Optimistic Media Group, the Namibia Film Commission, the entire cast and crew and everybody else who was part of the project”.
When asked how he feels about the film getting international recognition, director Khama Nakanduungileh said: “I am thrilled, and I just hope we get to showcase ‘Uushimba’ at more international film festivals such as the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) and others”.
The producers indicate that more screenings of ‘Uushimba’ are coming up before the end of the year but actual dates are yet to be confirmed.
‘Uushimba’ features the acting talents of Jason Shivute, Elago Ndapewa Shitaatala, James Paulus and Kondja ‘Laukey’ Lungameni. The story follows Hangula, a young man who was kicked off a minibus because of his kindness and like any other villager arriving in the capital city, the bright lights blind him.
‘Uushimba’ has also screened at the African Children’s Film Festival (Afrikikas) which took place in Windhoek from 14 to 17 September.
