US$45m to help the poor in Angola

JOHANNESBURG – US oil giant Chevron has invested US$45 million in agriculture and infrastructure in Angola to lift the lives of rural poor in the southwest African nation, a top executive said on Tuesday.

Jonathan Lifa, Chevron’s public and government affairs Africa co-ordinator, told reporters in Johannesburg the firm was working with international charities in a so-called ‘Consortium for Development Relief’ aimed at using oil wealth to deliver better social services to ordinary Angolans. -Nampa-Reuters-Nampa-Reuters
