After an absence of almost six years, the popular Motorsport Expo is back on the tracks with a twist.
The two-day event is slated for 24 and 25 October at the Tony Rust Race Track.
Visitors can now interact with their racing icons outside their cars and take a selfie or two.
Big Boy Racing (BBR) has partnered with M+Z Motors to answer questions on all things racing and rally cars.
BBR’s Bradley Ferreira says motorsport enthusiasts do not always see what happens behind the scenes.
“Those two days will have an exhibition-style event.
The idea is to involve the public, which normally stands on the sidelines and does not have the intricate details of what motorsport is all about. But now you have the chance to see and hear more,” Ferreira says.
But it is not all about motorsport, there will be an exhibition and a test-drive day for potential clients on most of the M+Z brands including Mercedes-Benz, Chery, Kia, LDV and more.
The two-day event will see more than just race cars on display and test drives.
Spinning events will take place on Friday, while evening visitors will be entertained with an eight mile drag race.
This race is a shorter distance of 660 feet unlike the conventional quarter mile drag racing stretching over a distance of 1 320 feet.
Saturday morning will be action packed with a 4×4 Vasbyt event west of the Tony Rust Race Track, followed by a gymkhana event later the day.
The main event is a drifting event performed by local and international drifters, and space is limited for those who want to experience shotgun drifting for only N$300.
“Drifting is not a big code in Namibia, so five guys from South Africa that performed here before will come and put Tony Rust up in smoke which will be the big crowd puller this year,” Ferreira says.
He advises spectators to get a weekend pass for both days for N$220, while a single day ticket will cost N$130 and N$160, respectively.
He adds that more information is available on the Revved up Namibia Facebook page.
