United Stars poised to bounce back

AFTER clinching the Far North East Nationwide First Division, Rundu-based United Stars are confident that they will win promotion to football’s elite Namibia Premier League (NPL) next season.

The club’s manager Wensislaus Kasera told Nampa Tuesday that his players are looking forward to take on the other Nationwide division winners this weekend in a competition that would determine the two teams to be promoted to the top flight. Only two teams from the Nationwide divisions will be promoted to replace My Dae Chiefs and Liverpool FC who were relegated from the premier league.United Stars won its league with 53 points and 61 goals while runners up Cuca Tops FC ended second with 53 points and 55 goals.Kasera said due to pressure from Cuca Tops it was not easy to secure top spot as both teams were fighting hard to regain top flight status. If United Stars make it to the Premier League after this weekend’s promotion play off, it would be their second stint in the top division. They were first promoted in 2000 but after two seasons they were back in the Nationwide First Division.* Other team which will feature in the promotion play-offs for the premier league are Transnamib Invincible who won the Central West First Division, KK Palace winners of the Far North Nationwide Division and Deportivo from the Southern Zone. The matches will be played at Mokati Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. The fixtures were not released yet.- NampaOnly two teams from the Nationwide divisions will be promoted to replace My Dae Chiefs and Liverpool FC who were relegated from the premier league.United Stars won its league with 53 points and 61 goals while runners up Cuca Tops FC ended second with 53 points and 55 goals.Kasera said due to pressure from Cuca Tops it was not easy to secure top spot as both teams were fighting hard to regain top flight status. The fixtures were not released yet.- Nampa
