United Arab Emirates beat Oman in ICC division 2 final

THE United Arab Emirates (UAE) won the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 trophy after comfortably beating Oman by 67 in the final at the Wanderers field on Saturday.

Oman won the toss and sent UAE in to bat – a decision which backfired on them as UAE ran up a formidable score of 347/8 off their 50 overs. Their openers Mohammed Iqbal and Arshad Ali led the way with an opening stand of 196 runs before Iqbal was dismissed for 111 off 82 balls, including six sixes and 12 fours.Ali went on to score 133 of 143 balls (9×4, 2×6), while the next best batsmen were Saqib Ali (25) and Amjad Javed (21).S Amir was Oman’s best bowler with 4/63 off eight overs, while Siddiqui took 3/66 off 10 overs.Oman made a strong start as their openers put on 64 runs for the first wicket before Desai was dismissed for 40.Vaibhav Wategaonkar was dismissed cheaply for 7, while Adnan Ilyas added 18 and when Zeeshan Siddiqui went out for a top score of 66 they were struggling at 4/142.Hemal Jayanthilal and Sultan Ahmed tried hard to revive Oman’s hopes with a 56-run partnership before Jayanthilal went for 30.Ahmed was dismissed for 63 and although Syed Amir added 38 not out Oman were too far behind and were eventually all out for 280 runs to give UAE a comfortable victory.Khuramm Khan (3/42 off 9 overs) and Amjad Javed (2/33 off 6 overs) were UAE’s best bowlers.Arshad Ali of UAE won the man of the match award.NAMIBIA BEAT DENMARK Namibia beat Denmark by four wickets to finish third overall at the World Cricket League Division 2 competition on Saturday, December 1.Denmark elected to bat first and got off to a good start with Frederik Klokker and Mickey Lund putting on 75 for the first wicket.Kola Burger got the breakthrough, bowling Klokker for 43, while Raymond van Schoor caught Lund off Deon Kotze’s bowling for 28.Carsten Pedersen top scored for Denmark with 46 runs, but none of their other batsmen could get going as Namibia pegged them down with tight bowling and fielding.Namibia’s best bowlers were Kola Burger (2/49 off 10 overs) and Deon Kotze (2/35 off 10), while Nicolaas Schotz and Michael Durand each took one wicket.Namibia’s openers JB Burger and Raymond van Schoor got off to a quick start, but two wickets by Thomas Hansen gave Denmark brief hope.Hansen bowled JB Burger for 23 and had Michael Durand caught behind for 7.When Van Schoor was dismissed for 36 Namibia were struggling at 3/77.Gerrie Snyman however once again came to the rescue with a great innings of 71 runs off 68 balls, which included two sixes and eight fours.Snyman and Dawid Botha put on 103 runs for the fourth wicket to take Namibia to the brink of victory.Botha was eventually out for 58, while LP van der Westhuizen was out for 14, but Deon Kotze (5 not out) and Nicolaas Scholtz (5 not out) took Namibia to a comfortable victory with nine overs remaining.Dawid Botha of Namibia won the
