Unam Choir to Host ‘Africa Rise Concert’

The University of Namibia’s choir will be celebrating all things African with a performance titled ‘Africa Rise Concert: The People United in Song’.

The event, which is scheduled for Friday, 18 October, at the University’s Main Hall, will include performances by Vox Vitae and Vocal Reflections.

Ropafadzo Dambire, the public relations officer of the choir, said the end-of-year concert was driven by a cause. “In an effort to raise awareness against xenophobic attacks, gender-based violence and corruption, we decided to do it in the best way we can.”

The choir has grown extensively since its inception in the 90s when Bonnie Pereko was the lead composer. The team has travelled to South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, China and the US, amongst other countries. The choir also recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Vox Vitae, which means ‘voices of peace’, is a young group “passionate about choral music”. Based in Windhoek, the choir has appeared in several shows including Standard Bank’s ‘Buy-a-Brick Acapella Festival’ earlier this year.

Much like Vox Vitae, Vocal Reflections boasts talented singers who use their voices to spread positive messages. The group is headed for their first international tour in Germany in April 2020.

With this line-up, you can expect a whole lot of entertainment at the ‘Africa Rise’ concert, especially if you are a fan of choral music. The dress code is ‘African attire’.

Tickets are available at the door, with discounts for students.
