President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Ebson Uanguta as the new governor of the Bank of Namibia, effective 1 January 2026.
Uanguta will serve a five-year term, succeeding Johannes !Gawaxab, who was appointed to the position in 2020.
Presidential press secretary Jonas Mbambo says the appointment comes as Namibia continues to consolidate economic stability and strengthen financial governance.
“The president has expressed confidence in Mr Uanguta’s ability to execute his duties with professionalism, commitment, fairness, integrity and loyalty to the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Namibia,” he says.
Uanguta currently serves as deputy governor of the central bank, a position he has held since 2012.
He also served as interim managing director of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) in 2024.
