UAG acquires Chubb

THE United Africa Group (UAG) has become a provider of an extensive range of security products with its latest acquisition.

The Group this week announced that through its subsidiary United Security Services it had acquired the Namibian leg of Chubb and its subsidiary Gunnebo of Chubbsafes, making UAG the sole distributor and service provider of Chubb in Namibia.Chubb – a world leader in electronic security systems and services – is a major importer of fire-fighting equipment into southern Africa, specifically Namibia and Botswana, providing security products. These include dry chemical powder, CO2 extinguishers and cabinets, petrofoam, fire-hose reels, hydrant valves, fire hydrants and safety signage, safes, security doors and site protection. Commenting on the acquisition, United Africa Group CEO Brian Rubinstein said the deal was in line with United Africa Group’s long-term market strategy. ‘Our philosophy is to acquire premier brands and grow our market leadership by association with premium brands in hospitality, pension fund management and security services.’He added that no jobs would be lost as the deal included taking over Chubb employees, and that existing customer agreements would not be affected.The ChubbSafes Bank/Export Director, David Smith, was quoted in a press release as stating that ‘(Namibia) has been an important market for us and we have no doubt that distributorship under United Africa Group, product focus will be moving from strength to strength. We look forward to introducing a full range of products, safes, strong-room doors, entrance control and parameter protection products.’
