Two workers die at Gammams water care works facility

Two employees of Cape Advanced Engineering Namibia (CAE) died at the Gammams Water Care Works Wastewater Treatment Plant in Windhoek on Friday.

The City of Windhoek in a statement issued on Saturday said the incident occurred at about 09h30 on Friday while the employees were undertaking work at the facility.

Following the incident, the municipality’s emergency management services were dispatched to assist with the response, rescue and recovery operation.

“One other CAE employee survived the incident and is recovering,” noted the municipality.

CAE is a company contracted under a service agreement to undertake specified works and services at the plant.

The identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been disclosed, as the municipality is conducting formal processes.

“The city is committed to ensuring that the circumstances of the incident are investigated thoroughly, objectively and with the utmost integrity,” noted the municipality.

The City of Windhoek extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased and wished the surviving employee a full recovery.
