Two teenagers struck by lightning

OSHAKATI – A lightning bolt killed one child and injured another at Okatope Kamandume village near Ongwediva in the Oshana Region on Sunday.

Police spokesperson at Oshakati, Warrant Officer Samuel Hamukonda, said the deceased was identified as Kaino Mbepo (15) and the injured girl as 17-year-old Rebbeka Shimbaba. Police said the two teenagers were struck by lightning while drinking water at a water point near the homestead of their headman, Theofelus Mandume Haileka.Shimbaba was treated in the Oshakati State Hospital and has since been discharged.Lightning also torched a hut and killed a goat at Warrant Officer Hamukonda’s homestead at Eenghala, near Ongwediva, on the same day.- NampaPolice said the two teenagers were struck by lightning while drinking water at a water point near the homestead of their headman, Theofelus Mandume Haileka.
