Two suspected taxi robbery ‘masterminds’ wanted

The police are looking for two men believed to be the masterminds behind a surge in taxi-related robberies and kidnappings in Windhoek and Oshakati.

The wanted suspects, Isack Nuuyoma, also known as ‘Esko’, and Hainghumbi Pinehas, are linked to a string of cases involving fake taxis used to lure and rob passengers.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in a statement on Wednesday says at least eight cases with the same modus operandi have been reported in the Khomas and Oshana regions.

Three suspects connected to the syndicate have already been arrested in Windhoek, while the alleged masterminds remain at large.

Shikwambi says investigations show the suspects use vehicles fitted with false registration plates and fake identification numbers, posing as legitimate taxis.

“The police remain resolute in upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that those behind these acts of violence are brought to justice,” she says.

The police have cautioned the public to remain vigilant, share taxi details with family members or friends before boarding, to avoid unmarked or suspicious taxis, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts should contact deputy commissioner Chrispin Mubebo at 081 126 8888 or chief inspector Simeon Nghilalulwa at 081 256 0988.
