A SENIOR Justice Ministry official and a member of the Society of Advocates of Namibia are the latest persons to be appointed as Acting Judges of Namibia’s High Court.
Mina Viljoen, the Special Assistant to the Chief Justice, announced yesterday that President Hifikepunye Pohamba has, on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed Dr Collins Parker and Louis Botes as Acting Judges of the High Court. Parker, who is the Chief of Legal Services and International Co-operation in the Ministry of Justice, was appointed as Acting Judge from today until the end of July.He also served as an Acting Judge for a month and a half from the start of March this year.Botes, who is practising law as a member of the Society of Advocates of Namibia, was appointed as Acting Judge with effect from July 3 until the end of that month.While his practice encompasses work in both civil and criminal law, in legal circles Botes is considered one of the best amongst his peers in Namibia in the field of criminal law.It will be the first time that he will be acting as a Judge of Namibia’s High Court.Parker, who is the Chief of Legal Services and International Co-operation in the Ministry of Justice, was appointed as Acting Judge from today until the end of July.He also served as an Acting Judge for a month and a half from the start of March this year.Botes, who is practising law as a member of the Society of Advocates of Namibia, was appointed as Acting Judge with effect from July 3 until the end of that month.While his practice encompasses work in both civil and criminal law, in legal circles Botes is considered one of the best amongst his peers in Namibia in the field of criminal law.It will be the first time that he will be acting as a Judge of Namibia’s High Court.
